Why Mildura is one of the best regional cities in Australia

REAL ESTATE

Mildura continues to be one of Victoria’s best regional cities to eat, rest and play.  A vibrant regional city with a rich history, sitting on the banks of the Murray River, with wine bars and restaurants clustering Langtree Avenue; the Mildura region has all the ingredients for the perfect getaway.

We recently met with Mildura Rural City Council Mayor, Jason Modica to discuss the increase in tourism, new and exciting projects within our city, and how community engagement is at an all-time high.

Lifestyle and Tourism

Located in the far north-western corner of Victoria and under 550 kilometres from Melbourne, Mildura continues to be a popular tourist destination and a bustling regional city.  Known for its warm and stable weather, it is surrounded by impressive wineries and fruit growing farms.

With the impact of COVID-19 leading to state border closures, Mildura has seen a significant increase in tourism recently; and this continues long after state borders have re-opened.

The effects of COVID-19 have also led to a number of property buyers changing their attitudes and perspectives towards family, home location and work. These buyers are now looking to be closer to loved ones and are seeking lifestyle, over congested suburban environments.

While some visitors are experiencing Mildura for the first time, others are returning after 20+ years and highlighting to us how our city and its energy has changed dramatically.  This positive change is the direct result of our dedicated Councillors, and there continues to be many exciting projects in the pipeline.

Major Projects

Mildura Council continues to revive the social and economic wellbeing of our community through major infrastructure investment. With several major projects in the pipeline, these have the capacity to transform our region and future proof it for many years. Some key projects include:

Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct – This includes the development of an indoor and outdoor sporting complex, providing a home base for local sport and recreation clubs. Plans include a 3000-seat capacity entertainment centre, six-court indoor stadium, squash courts, café and alfresco area, AFL-standard oval and a second multipurpose sports field.

Mildura Riverfront Redevelopment – This development will further enhance Mildura’s position on the iconic Murray River and make it Victoria’s most significant inland river city. With facilities for locals and visitors alike, the master plan includes a tourism and cultural centre and transport interchange. All this builds on the recently completed Stage 1 works which connected Mildura’s CBD to the riverfront; significant changing the landscape of our city.

Community Engagement

These successful major projects are leading to a more active and engaged community. Such is the local engagement and connection, Mayor Jason Modica regularly receives calls from the community expressing their gratitude, their point of view on a local topic, or simply just to notify him of something requiring rectification, such as a fallen tree.

All this is enabling Mildura to continue being a great place to visit, and to live. This has resulted in property prices recently hitting record highs – and there is no end in sight. We are currently experiencing a significant jump in buyer enquiry and strong offers are being received early in a property’s campaign.

If you are considering searching for property within the Mildura region, speak with Mark who can help with information on what is available and upcoming in the market. Often early stages of the search may seem overwhelming, but speaking with a local professional can set your mind at ease.
